Hawaiian Roots reaching Logan, Utah Feb 2011
Kimo and Kalani Mack are getting ready to open their 3rd restaurant in Logan, UT! They have a special place in their hearts for Logan. Thomas Lee Mack, their father, was born and raised in Smithfield, Utah (just North of Logan). After his LDS mission to Arizona, Lee left Smithfield for a vacation in Hawaii. He met Wilma Niau there and the rest is history. He raised his family on Oahu. Although the boys are true Hawaiians, they did visit Smithfield growing up, and created great memories with grandparents and extended family. Many years later, the Mack brothers are now living in Utah. They are proud to announce the opening of their 3rd restaurant, newly located in North Logan. They are the Great-Great-Grandsons of James Mack, who was an early settler of Smithfield.
Below is a picture of Dad (in the white shirt) helping with the Kalua pig in the Imu (underground oven) on the island of Kauai in 1970. Dad was a great cook too and loved Hawaii! Brothers Kimo and Kalani Mack from Kaneohe, Hawaii, are
the ones bringing Utah its first "Steak Plate" style restaurant. They
both are "true blue", homegrown Hawaiians that just want to share a
little of their authentic style of grilling.
For
the past three or four years, Hawaii has started to see a lot of places
popping up around the islands, serving a very simple menu the locals
like to call "steak plates". This simple approach to dining out has
brought steak to a "fast food" style platform. The locals love it
because it eliminates the need to go in to an expensive steakhouse.
At
"Mo' Bettahs", you can come in with shorts and "slippahz"
(flip-flops) anytime, and get yourself some juicy, succulent steak,
grilled to perfection. Our simple menu makes it easy for you to order
and be on your way.
